The Government have again hit back at the GSD's "negative comments" on the venues for the upcoming Island Games, saying the opposition are "acting on rumours".
A statement from the Government said:
The Government notes the negative comments made by the Opposition in relation to the venues for the Island Games.
The Island Games will be a positive event which will be good for our sportsmen and sportswomen. It will also be good for Gibraltar as a whole.
It is genuinely regrettable that the Opposition in general and Mr Reyes in particular should issue a statement which by his own admission is based on “rumours” when he knows that all he has to do is pick up the phone.
The Special Olympics Sports Complex, the Student Accommodation, the refurbishment of works at the MUGA area, the complete refurbishment of the Bowling Alley at the King’s Bastion Leisure Centre, the Beach Volleyball courts at the Nuffield Pool and the Rifle Shooting range at the North Mole have now all been completed with our local athletes already benefiting use of their respective facilities.
Works at the new slipway for the sailing events, the Clay Target Shooting premises, together with the Lathbury and the Europa Sports Complex are well advanced and very near completion, the latter being the chosen venue for the Opening Ceremony of the Games.
