20-year-old Russian wins 2019 Gibraltar Masters in chess tournament

Vladislav Artemiev won with a brilliant last-round win against the Chinese grandmaster Yu Yangyi and will take home a cheque of £25,000 as a first prize.

Mr Artemiev finished on 8.5 points out of 10, half a point ahead of 19-year-old Indian grandmaster Karthikeyan Murali who scored a sensational win against the tournament top seed Maxime Vachier-Lagrave to finish second on 8 points.

The last time there was a straight win at the Gibraltar Masters was in 2015.
