Derek has had stars in his eyes since reading the news to his teddy bears at an early age. He has always had a love of radio, since listening to radio under the covers. It did happen eventually after a mix of weird and wonderful jobs, including a bouncer, home help, IT guru and his proudest first job in a sweetshop.
What’s your favourite place in Gibraltar and why?
I adore Main Street, it has such a brilliant selection of interesting stores - and no two seem the same. It's like watching a film again every time you walk down as you always see something new. The best thing is, all the yummy food treats are in Casemates so you can reward the shopping!
Tell us something about Gibraltar that not everyone knows?
Gibraltar has the southernmost mosque in Europe! The £5m mosque was a gift from the King of Saudi Arabia in 1997.
And something about you that not everyone knows?
I am obsessed with the Game Show 'Tipping Point'. It starts with a childhood love of the seaside and the penny pusher machines at the arcades. This is the modern day version on TV - and I have the app on my phone and it makes my day if I win the £10,000 jackpot (if only it was a real win!!).
What’s your favourite thing to do on the Rock?
I love wandering through and around the Botanical Gardens here. A great place to go and chill, listen to Rock Radio (naturally) and enjoy the sunshine while you think about nothing. Love it!
If you weren't presenting on Rock Radio, what would you be doing?
Mixing Milkshakes from chocolate bars in Casemates - a special twixasnickercrunchie shake special. I could be an inventor of Milkshake Cocktails (I'm thinking of names now)!.
